6. Presidents Report (Billy Feeney)- Season 2001/2002:
It's been another very successful year for the club. We had 6 rinks in both the Autumn and Spring Leagues, we had 8 rinks in the John Martin Competition and we had our usual introduce a friend evenings - thanks go to Margaret Isaac and Chris Lucas for this, plus our members who assisted them.
The points competition, organised by Brian Taylor and Robert Lamont, was successful once again and thanks go to them for that. We had a really good year in the Border League, losing only once in our section to our bogey team - Swinton. We played Glendale in the final. The rink consisted of Colin Martin, George Whiteford, Colin Jeffries and Edith White. Duns lost a four in one end early on in the game and Glendale never gave them the chance to get back into the game. The final score was 9 - 5 to Glendale. The pool of players for the Border League consisted of Colin Martin (who skipped 5 of the games and the final), George Whiteford (who skipped 2), Paul Jess (who skipped 1), Colin Jeffries, Edith White, John Isaac, John Hodge, Jack Bell, Alastair Hodge, Isobel Martin, Alan Lugget, John Walker and myself.
Colin Martin partnered Alan Campbell in the open pairs, which they won. Colin Martin and Colin Jeffries were part of the rink that won the Ralph Brooks competition. John Walker was in the winning rink of our own Bonspeil and also the Ayton Bonspeil. Jack Bell was part of a rink that finished runner-up in one of the "Auld Yins" competitions.
We just missed out on the Grand Match this year, the thaw setting in just 2 days before the event - let's hope for better luck next year!
It's really been a tremendous year for Scottish Curling with all the participants in the Great Britain team who won an Olympic gold medal being Scottish. A very proud moment for the Scots.
Our website (thanks to Paul Jess) seems to be going strong. Comments overheard during the games or in the bar after the games, are good fun to read.
I would like to finish by thanking my committee members for all the work they put in during the year and also those players who assisted in other competitions. My thanks to the more experienced players for keeping me on the straight and narrow, Colin Martin for filling in for me and presenting the prizes in a couple of competitions. Thanks too to Colin Jeffries for supplying the league score sheets, to Paul Jess for all his work as treasurer during the year and last - but not least to John Walker for all his hard work. I didn't realise just how much work he does for the club until this year. I wouldn't like to pay his telephone bill though, as he seemed never to be of the phone discussing or suggesting ways to keep the club going strong.
I hope everyone enjoyed their curling this year - I certainly have.

The president thanked retiring committee members Chris Lucas and Colin Martin for their valuable work during their terms in office.
10. Season Structure:
A starter paper had been circulated prior to the meeting.
Number of rinks: A 7 rink format for leagues was decided to give regular curling for as many members as possible who wished this - Proposed Colin Jeffries, seconded Brian Taylor.
Number of league competitions: It was decided that there would be three league competitions, each team playing each other team once. It was hoped that that this would give a high probability of games being competitive, in competitive leagues and avoid a rink(s) which did not click having to play a large number of games. This was carried by 17 to 3.
Structure of the 'third' league: After considerable discussion including shifts of position or various forms of rotation of position, it was decided that the secretary would contact all thirds after the meeting to find out whether they wished to skip in the third league and then to report back to the committee. It was also to be decided by the committee where skips would play if thirds wished to skip and also if some form of seeding was likely to produce rinks with the maximum competitive balance.
11. Possible sponsorship of the Pairs competition:
After considerable discussion, it was decided that the total ice cost for the competition would be divided by all the members playing so that a flat rate applied.
No change was to be made for the John Martin competition . Two sheets of ice are to be booked for the start of season new(ish) members and as a warm up night at a flat rate of £5. No event for the end of season was to be booked in May 2002 as ice can be booked at short notice for March if needed.
12. AOCB
Duns CC RCCC membership: It was noted that 2006 appeared to be the 150th anniversary of Duns CC joining the RCCC and that some consideration of a way of marking this should be considered.
Past organisation of rinks and substitutes Rob Massie gave an insight into how Duns CC had organised rinks and substitutes in the past and his preference for these former arrangements.
Annual close season social event: George Whiteford suggested a close season social event for members and friends - this could take the form of a barbecue or dinner.
13. The president closed the meeting with thanks to members for attending the meeting and contributing to the running of the club.
